The Story of Violet

It all began in a small house in Shiraz, where a girl named Violet Raziqpanah was born on a summer day in June. The city's rich history and vibrant culture flowed through her veins, shaping her early years. She was a curious child, always drawn to the magic of colors, sounds, and words. Painting, music, and poetry weren't just hobbies; they were the languages through which she understood the world. When she was twelve, a new chapter began. Her family moved, and the rhythm of her life changed with each new city. But what remained constant was her love for stories. At fourteen, a kind and insightful teacher opened her eyes to the world of literature and storytelling. She began to write, not just for herself, but to capture the feelings and experiences that words alone couldn't convey. The path from writer to journalist was an unexpected one. In college, while studying economics, a professor encouraged her to write economic articles for a newspaper instead of completing a few class credits. The thrill of journalism—the constant movement, the search for truth, the power of a well-written story—was intoxicating. She was captivated and spent her days in the newspaper's office, learning photography, interviewing, and article writing. But a change in management meant leaving the world of journalism behind. It was a difficult decision, but it led her to a new and even more profound calling. She became a mother to two boys, and every night, a new adventure would begin. She'd tell them stories, but her little listeners were demanding critics. When the ending of a story changed, their protests were immediate. So, she started to write them down, not just to remember them but to make them permanent. Little did she know, this simple act would change her life. A hidden manuscript of her stories was given to the renowned author Simin Daneshvar, who encouraged her to pursue children's literature. It was an invitation to a world where imagination was everything. Violet was soon welcomed into the Children's Book Council and the Center for the Arts, where she learned from some of the most respected figures in Iranian literature, including the legendary Turan Mirhadi.

Literary Journey

Stories are the threads that weave together the fabric of human experience, connecting hearts across time and culture.
— Violet Razegh Panah

MY JOURNEY AS AN AUTHOR

My passion for storytelling led me to write for several publications like Kayhan Bacheha, Zan Rooz, and Aftabgardan. But it was my book, "The Mir Station," that truly made a mark. In 2001, it received the prestigious UNESCO award, an honor given to books that promote peace and mutual respect among different cultures. Out of 309 books from 58 countries, "The Mir Station" was chosen for its powerful message of tolerance and understanding. My writing has been a way to explore complex themes through the simple, honest eyes of a child. I believe that children's literature is a powerful tool for shaping the future, for planting seeds of kindness and empathy. Her breakthrough came with the UNESCO Prize for Children's Literature in 2001, recognizing her exceptional ability to weave cultural heritage into compelling narratives that resonate with young readers worldwide.

Writing Philosophy

"Every story should serve as a bridge," Violet often says, "connecting past to present, culture to culture, and heart to heart." This philosophy permeates her work, creating narratives that are deeply rooted in Persian heritage yet speak to universal human experiences.

Her approach to storytelling emphasizes the preservation of cultural wisdom while making it accessible to new generations. She believes that literature serves as a vessel for cultural transmission, ensuring that the rich traditions of storytelling continue to evolve and inspire.
